ICYMI: The Bastrop-Austin Texas Pipeline (BATX) Project Goes Before Austin City Council Members for Council Approval

AUSTIN, TX – The Austin City Council voted to approve the Bastrop-Austin Texas Pipeline (BATX) project during its May 22nd meeting. The measure, Agenda Item #2, was passed as part of the consent agenda marking a key milestone in the project’s advancement.

Agenda Item #2 authorizes the City to negotiate and execute a license agreement with BATX Pipeline, LLC, for the use of approximately 2.5 miles of airport property at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. The agreement covers the installation of a 10-inch diameter underground jet fuel pipeline and related surface facilities for a term of up to 40 years. If construction begins during the current fiscal year, this project is expected to generate approximately $76,583 in additional revenue for the Austin Aviation Department’s FY 2024-2025 operating budget.

Public testimony was heard prior to the vote on consent agenda items. Susana Almanza, Director of People Organized in Defense of Earth and Her Recourses (PODER) spoke on behalf of PODER and Southeast Austin Neighbors and Residents Organized for Environmental Justice (SANAR).
